Brief History of The School

Muslim Hospital, Saki was established in 1987 which as at the time was the first of its kind in Nigeria, by the Saki Muslim Community. To have it completed as a whole, the interest to establish a School of Nursing was mooted in the year 2001.

The financier of this initiative, the Baytul Mal, Saki, that is, the Saki Muslim Treasury, to which weekly contributions were made by Muslims in Saki, made application to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). At that time, the Council had decided to change from hospital-based schools of Nursing to College, Polytechnics, or University-based Nursing Institutions.

Thus, the Saki Muslim Community changed to a proposed College of Nursing, Muslim Hospital, Saki to be affiliated to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State. All efforts to make this possible failed as the National Universities Commission as at then began closing down of all Satellite Campuses and preferred Integrated Tuition Universities.

In the year 2008, the approach was changed and an application was made for the School of Basic Midwifery, Muslim Hospital, Saki. Presently the School is running Basic Midwifery training programme from 2010 till date and also the school has now been upgraded into College Of Nursing Sciences to run both Nursing and Midwifery Programmes due to the new reforms of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

Objectives of the School

  • To give qualitative education to student midwives whose services will be required at our health institutions and general health care e.g. Comprehensive maternal and infant care.
  • To contribute to medical and nursing research in the hospital and the community and provide necessary midwives manpower for the Muslim Hospital, Saki and health care institutions in Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.
  • To mould the students through sound, moral, culture and practice and to train midwives who will take care of specific and religious needs of patients/ clients in our hospitals and communities.
  • To make available higher institutions that would absorb the growing students population in our secondary schools in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.

Philosophy of the School

The College of Nursing Sciences, Muslim Medical Foundation, Saki is expected to be a Center of Academic Excellence where student nurses and midwives will be trained to serve the existing health and educational institutions in the country, and as well contribute to Medical, Nursing and Midwifery researches.

The need to produce these nurses and midwives who will be well grounded in modern medical practice and spirituality, informed our desire to establish the school.

When fully established, it will take care of the interest of would-be Nurses and Midwives, without regard to race, creed, religions, ethnic or tribal considerations but will combine academic pursuit with the Islamic orientation like any other mission schools in obtaining qualitative training and attaining academic excellence.

Vision Statement

To produce trained Midwives who are competent, skilled and always available to provide maternal and infant services at all tiers of health care delivery.
